The Combining Caron (Hacek) is a nonspacing diacritical mark applied above base characters to indicate palatalization, a falling-rising tone, or other phonetic variations. It is a fundamental component for Central European languages like Czech, Slovak, and Croatian, as well as Pinyin transcription for Mandarin.
