ℹ️ About

The Bengali Sign Virama (্), commonly known as “Hasanta,” is a nonspacing combining mark essential to the Bengali script. Its primary function is to suppress the inherent vowel sound ‘a’ that typically follows a consonant. This allows for the formation of consonant clusters or conjuncts (ligatures). In digital typography, it acts as a “glue” character that tells the rendering engine to merge two consonant glyphs into a complex phonetic shape.

⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with ◌ু (Bengali Vowel Sign U).
