The Cyrillic Small Letter Byelorussian-Ukrainian “і” (U+0456) is a lowercase letter used in the modern Belarusian, Ukrainian, Rusyn, and Kazakh alphabets. Historically, it was also part of the Russian pre-1918 orthography. It functions as a close front unrounded vowel, visually identical to the Latin lowercase “i” but technically distinct in Unicode.
