The Devanagari Letter Ja (ज) is a voiced palatal affricate consonant. It is the third letter of the palatal group (varga) in the Devanagari abugida. In technical linguistics, it represents the [d͡ʒ] sound. When combined with a nukta (dot), it becomes ज़ (U+095B), used to represent the [z] sound in Persian and Arabic loanwords.
⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with ज़ (U+095B – Devanagari Letter Za).
