The Devanagari Vowel Sign U (U+0941) is a dependent vowel sign (matra) used in the Devanagari script to represent the short vowel /u/. As a Nonspacing Mark (Mn), it attaches to the bottom of the preceding consonant. Note that when paired with the consonant ‘Ra’ (र), it forms a unique ligature (रु) rather than being placed directly underneath.
