The Bengali Vowel Sign I (ি) is a dependent vowel grapheme used in the Bengali script to denote the short ‘i’ sound. Classified as a Spacing Mark (Mc), it graphically appears to the left of the consonant it modifies, despite being logically ordered after it in Unicode strings. This character was first standardized in Unicode 1.1 (1993).
⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with ী (U+09C0 Vowel Sign II).
