ਸ਼ GURMUKHI LETTER SHA

U+0A36
ਸ਼

ℹ️ About

The Gurmukhi Letter Sha (ਸ਼) represents the voiceless postalveolar fricative /ʃ/ in the Punjabi language. Technically, it is a canonical decomposition of the base letter ‘Sa’ (ਸ U+0A38) combined with a ‘Nukta’ (਼ U+0A3C) dot below. This character is vital for modern Punjabi, especially for loanwords from Persian, Arabic, and English.

⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with (U+0A38), which lacks the nukta and represents the standard /s/ sound.
