The Devanagari Vowel Sign Uu (ू) is a dependent vowel sign (matra) used to represent the long ‘ū’ sound. As a non-spacing mark (Mn), it attaches below the base consonant. In Devanagari typography, it is functionally distinct from the independent vowel ‘ऊ’ and is critical for correct word formation in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Marathi.
