ℹ️ About

The Broken Bar (¦), also known as a parted bar, is a legacy character primarily used in older encoding systems like ISO-8859-1. Technically defined as an “Other Symbol” (So), it was often used to distinguish a visible “broken” vertical line from the solid vertical bar (|) used in programming (OR operators). In modern typography, it is rarely used but remains essential for backward compatibility and legacy data processing.

⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with | (Vertical Bar U+007C).
