The Devanagari Letter A (अ) is the first vowel of the Devanagari script. It represents the inherent vowel sound [ə] in languages like Hindi and Sanskrit. Technically, it is an “Other Letter” (Lo) in the Unicode Standard, added in version 1.1. It serves as the base for many other vowel characters in the script.
⚠️ Note: Do not confuse with आ (U+0906), which is the long vowel ‘AA’.
