The Latin Small Letter Z With Dot Above (ż) is a critical grapheme in Polish and Maltese orthography. In Polish, it represents the voiced retroflex sibilant /ʐ/. Technically, it is a precomposed character that can be decomposed into the base letter ‘z’ (U+007A) and the ‘Combining Dot Above’ (U+0307). It has been a standard part of Unicode since version 1.1.
